The Truck of bicycles: Cargo bikes provide new unique purposes for the cycling enthusiast. They are generally expensive, but there are a variety of models. Xtracycle is one of the top original brands, and this Radish Longtail is a versatile and well-rounded choice, with several different loading setups and optional extras such as seats and racks. There is no learning curve for riding unloaded or lightly loaded. It feels about the same as a well engineered, standard upright bicycle. It handles well and takes bumps smoothly with 26 x 2 inch tires. Long distance road cyclists obsess over every extra ounce, for good reason, but for average joy riding when going out for only a few hours, most riders are surprised by how little they notice many extra pounds. This particular model has a superior 4130 Chromoly welded steel frame for extra strength, and weighs a total of 43 lbs stock. It can carry a lot: several children on the back, or heavy material up to 200lbs. The trick to a smooth, low effort ride, is to carry cargo as low and close to the driver as possible, which is why the expandable freeloader bags (included) work so well. They can be strapped on the sides and hold groceries, tools, or long items. The 1x9 gears and Shimano grip shift make it simple and easy to use. The ultra-low first gear helps with those heavy loads up hills or against wind. The Radish comes stock with some great features: lowered stepover frame, sweptback handlebars, fenders, chain guard, quick release seat post, etc. The frame geometry is already great, but I improved it further with a new setback seat post, comfortable saddle, and highly adjustable gooseneck for an upright riding position. I am 6 feet tall and can easily put both feet on the ground while sitting in the saddle. I also added new handlebar grips, a high-quality bell, 2 bottle cages, a custom dog basket, and mirrors to keep an eye on my dog. I had it setup to take my 40 lb. dog riding and her weight wasn't an issue. It did take a little practice to instinctively shift my weight as she shifts hers though. I'm also selling the optional escape-proof dog harness and harness clips, dog cushion, and treat container, if you'd like to take a dog of your own. I bolted everything together with Stainless steel bolts so the bike can be lifted up by the cage. It makes loading it into a vehicle much easier. The quick release front wheel reduces the length and height in a pinch. Also included are the stock parts, and the stock deck which has multiple uses, and all the original manuals. The thousand helmet is for sale separately if interested. There's nothing like going out for a smooth quiet ride under your own power. I highly recommend it. $600 cash only.
