The Truck of bicycles: Cargo bikes provide new unique purposes for the cycling enthusiast. They are generally expensive, but there are a variety of models. Xtracycle is one of the top original brands, and this Radish Longtail is a versatile and well-rounded choice, with several optional loading setups such as seats and racks.

This particular model is in great working shape with only superficial blemishes. It boasts a superior 4130 Chromoly welded steel frame for extra strength, and weighs a total of 43 lbs. stock. Not including the rider, it can carry loads up to 200lbs. The cargo possibilities are vast: kids, pets, surfing/fishing gear, sports equipment, shopping, tools, material, even picking up a pizza.

There is no learning curve for riding unloaded or lightly loaded. The ride feel is comparable to a well engineered, standard frame bicycle. It handles well and takes bumps smoothly with 26 x 2 inch tires. The trick to a smooth, low effort ride, is to carry cargo as low and close to the driver as possible, which is why the expandable freeloader bags (included) work so well. They can be strapped on the sides to hold groceries, tools, or long items. The 1x9 gears and Shimano grip shift make it simple and easy to use. The ultra-low first gear helps with those heavier loads up hills, or against wind.

The Radish comes stock with several great features: lowered stepover frame, sweptback handlebars, adjustable fenders, chain guard, quick release seat post, etc. The frame geometry was already comfortable, but I improved it further with a new setback seat post, durable saddle, and highly adjustable gooseneck, for an upright riding position. I am 6 feet tall and can easily put both feet on the ground while sitting in the saddle.

Hundreds spent in extras such as: handlebar grips, a rattle resistant bell, 2 chrome bottle cages, a custom metal dog basket (which is also great for cargo), and mirrors to keep an eye on my dog. I had it setup to take my 40 lb. dog riding, and her extra weight was only noticed when she shifted sides.

For an additional $20, I'm also selling all the optional dog gear: high quality escape-proof dog harness and harness clips, dog cushion, and treat container, if you'd like to take a dog of your own.

The stylish, theft resistant, thousand brand helmet, can also be included for just $20 extra, if interested.

Another improvement is the addition of stainless steel bolts, allowing the bike to be lifted by the cage and loaded into a vehicle easily. The quick release front wheel swiftly reduces the length and height for storage, though it fit in my short bed pickup without issue. Also included are the stock parts, including the Xtracycle deck which has multiple uses, and all the original manuals.

It's satisfying to go on a smooth, quiet ride, under your own power, carrying more than other bikes would dare. I highly recommend it.

$650 cash only, or $690 with all extras.
