Sailing Vessel Bequia Chief is a 42 foot sailboat built in Taiwan at Duncan Marine Enterprises in 1974. She is a modified Pixie design by William Garden and hull #8 of 29. She is a unique boat that is equipped to cruise, but needs a lot of love from someone who has the knowledge and capital to do right by her. When we acquired her a few years ago, she was our "project" boat, but within the last year, our primary boat, a Formosa 51, needed more attention than anticipated and it is time to let Chief go. We are hoping to find someone who has a love for this classic design and has the resources to restore her.
Full Dimensions:
- LOA: 42 ft
- Beam: 13 ft 6 in
- Draft: 6 ft
- Displacement: 42,000 lbs
Chief is originally cutter ketch rigged. When she came into our possession, the masts/booms were wood and starting to split. Due to safety reasons, we removed them in 2023. She has a center cockpit, hard dodger, and bimini frame. She has dinghy davits that are strong enough to hold a 11.5 ft Boston Whaler dinghy and a 15 hp Tohatsu motor (dinghy/motor not available). The davits also served as a frame for two large solar panels. These panels have since been removed due to damage. There are two 65 lbs CQR anchors with 400 ft of G3 chain for the primary and a chain/rhode combination for the secondary. She has a sturdy fiberglass hull, however, the teak decks are completely rotten and will need to be replaced. Once the decks are finished, masts and standing rigging will need to be acquired. The top end of the motor (Westerbeke W80) was recently rebuilt. Cylinder head resurfaced with new valve seats and springs installed. Head, heat exchanger, and exhaust manifold/resevoir unit were all stripped and tested for cracks/leaks. One small crack on heat exchanger was welded to repair. Gaskets, hoses, clamps, zincs, and v-belt were all replaced as well as the thermostat and raw water pump. Unfortunately due to time contraints rings and cylinders were not replaced. The engine has good compression and runs great, however there is some blow by and it burns oil which will need to be addressed.
