I bought this kayak for my wife several years ago to use as a recreational kayak. It had the additional length and beam that most recreational kayaks did not have so she could paddle longer distances. Neither one of us fish, so never used what appear to be great fishing capabilities.
I had a small leak in the boat. Several years ago, I contacted the Viking company in New Zealand to get repair instructions. They specified the type of epoxy that was required and informed me that just prior to spreading the epoxy the polyethylene needed to be heated. I performed the repair and do not have any more leaks.
The length and beam keep the kayak tracking straight and stable. A modified double concave hull further improves stability and tracking. The keel is rockered just behind the seat to improve handling on open water and surfing back to the beach.
Instead of a bow hatch, the kayak has a deep bow well that drains with two large scuppers. This keeps gear at hand, but out of the way. A trampoline screen covers the bow well to keep your gear on the boat and water and sun out.
A large deck well covered by a sealed hatch will hold tackle in gear. Please note that one of the hatch cover tiedown points has broken. Please see the photos.The wood top on the hatch cover doubles as a fish cutting board. A smaller hatch in front of the seat is plumbed to install a fishfinder and transducer. The Yakgear seat is low profile and double padded. Behind the seat, two smaller hatches open to live bait wells with drains in the bottom. The boat ends with a tank well in the stern. There are four carry handles a paddle strap on each side, half a dozen flush mount rod holders, a.Railblaza Starmount in the Stern, pre-drilled and tapped holes for anchor, trolley, rod holders, and electronics.
